The Need:
The Hope:
Studies link homelessness and housing instability to negative education outcomes.
This research finds that homeless or unstably housed children are often absent from school, change schools frequently, have lower test scores, slower grade progression, and are more likely to drop out of school. Children in families experiencing homelessness are also more likely to have emotional and behavioral problems than children with consistent living accommodations.
We believe that every child, youth, and woman deserves the stability that will allow them the opportunity to pursue high educational achievement that opens up opportunities for a lifetime of success.
Through its staffed living facility, Living in Peace will work to reduce absences, dropouts, and unemployment while increasing educational success by
- Partnering with tutors and schools
- Providing a stable and consistent place to live
- Teaching and promoting healthy behaviors and decision-making
- Empowering children, youth, and women to succeed in all levels of schooling, encouraging good grades, higher test scores, higher education, and career certifications
